#7: Seal Sea Sickness
Despite their aquatic mastery, seals can actually get seasick if you put them on a boat. These marine mammals are well adapted to life in the water, with a streamlined body and flippers for efficient swimming. However, a boat’s rocking and swaying motion can disrupt their sense of balance, leading to motion sickness – just like us humans.
Like humans, seals rely on their inner ear for balance, and the constant movement of a vessel can confuse their sensory perception. While it might seem surprising, this vulnerability to seasickness reminds us that even the most skilled oceanic creatures have limits when it comes to adapting to the unique conditions of life at sea.
