#16: Forgetful Squirrels
Squirrels, those industrious little rodents, play a crucial role in forest regeneration without even realizing it. As part of their natural instinct to prepare for winter, squirrels tirelessly collect nuts and seeds from various trees. They bury these food caches in the ground to retrieve them during the leaner winter times. However, squirrels often forget the locations of many of these buried treasures!
These forgotten nuts and seeds eventually sprout into new trees, giving rise to thousands of saplings each year. Basically, squirrels unintentionally act as nature’s seed dispersers, helping to replenish the forests and ensure the survival and growth of countless trees. So, while they may be forgetful, squirrels are vital contributors to the renewal and diversity of our woodlands.
