#5: Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Bear?
If the Redwoods themselves aren’t remarkable enough for you, you can always wonder at the wildlife you’ll find below. Unfortunately, you’ll only be finding black bears and none of the brown ones like that pictured, ever since someone shot the last Californian grizzly bear in 1924 (or 1922, depending on which version you believe).
Anyone who hasn’t seen one of these guys in real life has no idea just how big they actually are. This particular specimen is estimated to be over 300 pounds, and it can get even bigger. Trust me; you don’t want to accidentally bump into one of these fellows in the middle of a hike.
