There are many things we see and use in our daily lives that we take for granted. From the roads we walk on to the toothpaste we use, we don’t really stop to think about how these things are made and what the logic behind them is. Even though you’ve never had them, we’re here today with a collection of photos that answer some of these questions and show us common items from a different perspective.
#1: How Roads Are Paved
Humans are pretty good at making things. Some of our most ancient civilizations – from the Aztecs to the ancient Egyptians – were already pretty innovative as far as construction was concerned. And what could be a better marker of a society’s progress in building prowess than the paving of its roads?
I bet not many of you think of the Dutch when you think of groundbreaking construction. Yet here’s a behind-the-scenes peak at how their [brick] roads are laid, and it’s pretty impressive. It almost looks like it could be folded in half and placed into a [very big] envelope.
