#19: More Bark Than Bite
It’s not like we didn’t know cinnamon was basically a tree trunk. I mean, cinnamon sticks themselves really do look like very miniature pieces of bark. And the spice could be accused of having a bit of a woody flavor to it, which makes sense considering we’re evolved to eat parts of trees.
Even so, seeing a fresh piece of cinnamon can still mess with your head just the tiniest bit. These days, we are so alienated from the processes involved in producing our food that any little glimpse into what those processes look like is enough to amaze us, even when we know it theoretically.
