#35: Rhode Island
Inbound moves: 60.1%
Outbound moves: 39.9%
Rhode Island, the smallest state in America, has been making its way up the United Van Lines’ national movers list, landing in the top 10 for inbound moves in 2021. Around 36% of those who moved to Rhode Island did so for job opportunities, while many sought a change in lifestyle, particularly remote work options.
However, it’s worth noting that Rhode Island is one of the most expensive states to live in, with approximately half of the inbound movers reporting an income of $150,000 or more. For some interesting trivia, the state government website shares that it was the site of the first U.S. polo game in 1876, and Newport was where the first British troops sent to quash the American Revolution docked.
