#2: Fan Death
Often passed down through generations, old wives’ tales offer us unconventional explanations for various cultural phenomena. One example is the South Korean belief that sleeping in a closed room with an electric fan running can lead to death, a phenomenon known as “fan death.” Despite scientific evidence to the contrary, this urban legend has persisted in Korean culture for decades.

People who adhere to this belief attribute fan death to various factors, including hypothermia, suffocation, and the idea that fans deplete the room of oxygen. While numerous studies have debunked the myth, attributing fan death to other underlying health conditions or improper ventilation, it remains deeply ingrained in the Korean consciousness.
