#18: Jump Over the Competition
American P.E. class has some pretty weird requirements that are implemented in an effort to promote healthy habits and regular exercise. Physical education in China is a little different and much more competitive. School kids have to pass jump rope tests as part of their rigorous curriculum. If they get high enough marks, they qualify for scholarships.
This might seem like a simple task, but it’s no joke. Some parents pay exorbitant amounts of money for their kids to undergo jump rope training. Way to take the fun out of skipping rope! A lot of kids probably don’t find jump roping very fun when it’s a required activity that a bunch of adults are making them participate in. Oh well.
