Brothers Reuniting, After Being Separated by the Berlin Wall, 1963
The construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 created an abrupt division between the people of East and West Berlin, imposing strict restrictions on crossings. Families were torn apart, unable to reunite for over two years. However, in 1963, a glimmer of hope emerged with introducing a border pass agreement.
This allowed residents of West Berlin to visit their loved ones in the East, sparking joy and relief among separated families. Despite this small reprieve, it would take another 25 years before the wall finally fell, symbolizing the end of an era of division and marking a new chapter of unity for the city.
