#33: Not Worth It
Humans have always had an eye for luxury goods. Many consider shahtoosh wool the most luxurious fabric in the world. This super soft, extremely warm wool is made with fur from the chiru or Tibetan antelope. The fabric is so luxurious that its name even carries royal connotations. “Shahtoosh” derives from the Persian phrase for “king of wools.”
Shahtoosh wool has been prized for centuries because of its luxurious feel and extremely labor-intensive production process. However, it’s illegal to own this rare fabric. In classic human fashion, the chiru was hunted to near extinction because of the strong desire for this fabric. Chiru are wild animals, so they had to be killed in order to obtain their fur. In our opinion, no wool isn’t worth exterminating an entire species.
