#26: Oh, the Irony
The Beastie Boys are perhaps best known for their song “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party).” The iconic song came out in 1986 and marked one of the Beastie Boys’ first mainstream hits. The song is all about wanting to party no matter what. However, it seems that most fans of the song totally misunderstood the meaning.

The Beastie Boys created “Fight for Your Right” as a parody song. Instead of celebrating party and frat culture, it was actually poking fun at it. The frat bros who heard the song on the radio didn’t feel any sense of irony whatsoever. To this day, it’s a national anthem for all who like to party. Sorry, Beastie Boys. This song has a life of its own.
