#43: Ben Stiller
This one had me rolling my eyes so hard that I think I sprained something. This is a classic case of someone saying something nuanced, someone else condensing it down to something simple (and controversial, right, because you’ve gotta get clicks somehow), and then a bunch of people accepting it as fact.
Go read the actual Twitter exchange that Stiller had on the subject of nepotism. You’ll find out he did not say anything he’s being accused of. He conceded that nepotism does exist within Hollywood, but simply said that it would not be fair to assume that people who have famous parents have never done any work to get where they are and that people who have famous parents but no talent won’t make it in the industry. Both of which, I think, seems reasonable.
