#22: Plastic Protection
I do understand the impulse that some people, especially older people, have to keep plastic on furniture. My grandmother was born in a poor part of town at the beginning of the Great Depression, and for most of her life, her family was just getting by. Of course, if someone in that situation buys a nice piece of furniture, they’re going to do everything in their power to keep it nice.
But it’s definitely a little sad because it seems to interfere with the very purpose of furniture, which is to be used. I’d rather have an alright-looking couch I can put my feet on than a nice couch that I’m terrified to touch. It’s all about priorities…
