After much reading and consideration, we decided that we wanted to know how many animals out there share human DNA sequences. Today we’re sharing the results with you. Enjoy this list of animals that share human DNA sequences.

Monkeys, Apes, Humans!
Humans are most closely related to the apes, and monkeys of the world. We know this because we’re often taught at a young age about our close DNA relationship to apes and monkeys. This is the first species we guessed would share a similar DNA sequence to humans before we did any research.
Humans and gorillas share over 98% of the same DNA sequences while humans and monkeys have about 93% of the sequences found in our DNA.
Mice
Did you know that mice share a similar DNA sequence as humans? We didn’t know this until we started researching for this article. It’s been proven that mice and humans share about 90 percent of the same DNA sequences.

Dogs
Next up, we have some dogs! Yes, it’s true! Those furry companions you love so much as a pet, do share about 84% of the DNA sequencing found in human beings. Perhaps this is why dogs get along so well with human beings; their makeup is similar to us in a lot of ways.
Chickens
We expect to have mammals sharing similar DNA sequences to humans, what about birds? Yup, you guessed it! Chickens share about 65 percent of the DNA sequencing found in human beings. There are differences between humans and birds, of course, but we still share some similar traits within our DNA makeup.

What percentage of DNA do we share with animals?
Human beings share more than 50 percent of their DNA sequencing with animals. As you can see above, some animals share more DNA with us than other animals. It’s crazy to think that we share about 80 percent DNA with cows, while insects do share some DNA with us too, about 61 percent of the human DNA sequencing is the same as fruit flies.
In conclusion, the closest living relatives to human beings are the chimpanzees and the bonobo. Now that you know which animals out in the world share a similar DNA sequence as humans, we hope that you feel a little bit smarter today.
