Why Do People Enjoy Pet Hedgehogs

December 9, 2021 by Jessica Meyer

If you are thinking about getting a hedgehog as a pet, then this is the article for you. We will answer your question of why do people enjoy pet hedgehogs. There are several reasons that we found while researching and we hope it helps with your decision to get a little friend of your own.

Keep in mind, once you add a hedgehog to your family, it is for life, so make sure you are ready before jumping into the fun.

Hedgehogs can be great pets if kept in homes with children and other pets under supervision. They love to play but use caution when around young children or other animals that may not be aware of hedgehog spines.

First, hedgehogs are very low-maintenance pets. They don’t need to be taken for walks and they can be litter box trained if you get a female. They do like to play and run around so make sure you have a room for them to roam in.

Second, they are very social animals. Unfortunately, they live in colonies in the wild and it is important to keep hedgehogs with other hedgehogs when you buy them as pets.

Third, they require a special diet to remain healthy. You will need to purchase pet food or mix your own diet for your new friend. Introduce new foods slowly to avoid any stomach problems.

Fourth, they are nocturnal animals and like to sleep during the day. You will most likely see them out and about at night when you are winding down for bed.

Fifth, hedgehogs make great pets because they can be trained to do tricks. Yes, just like a dog or cat, hedgehogs can be taught to do simple tricks.

Sixth, they are hypoallergenic and do not cause problems for people with allergies.

Finally, hedgehogs are just plain cute and you can’t help but love them. They have big eyes and a playful personality that will make you happy you decided to add one to your family.
