#15: So what Do You Call It When a Frog Dies?
Here’s a nice little pun about death for you. I have to admit that I laughed pretty hard at this one, which maybe says that I’m a little morbid, but maybe says that I just have an excellent sense of humor. It does make me wonder, though, how the word croak came to mean to die.
We certainly didn’t get it from frogs, because, as pointed out, frogs croak all the time without actually croaking. Or does it refer to people making a croaking sound the moment they die? Because I’m pretty sure that doesn’t happen, though I admit I’ve never seen anyone die. But surely someone would have told me if everyone who dies makes a croaking sound.
