#13: John Diehl as Detective Larry Zito
Every great show needs its steady, unsung heroes, and for Miami Vice, that was Larry Zito. Played by John Diehl, Zito was the quieter half of the Switek–Zito partnership — the observant one with a dry wit and deep loyalty to his team. When his character was killed off, fans were genuinely shocked. It was one of the show’s earliest emotional punches.

John Diehl wasn’t new to acting when he joined the cast; he’d already made his mark in theater and small film roles. His grounded, understated performance helped balance the show’s flash and flair. Zito may not have had the Ferrari or the pastel suits, but he brought soul to the streets of Miami.
