#3: Clark Gable & Carole Lombard
Clark Gable and Carole Lombard first met awkwardly in 1932 but truly fell in love years later while both were Hollywood royalty. Their romance blossomed away from the studios, built on shared humor, informality, and escape from public personas, especially at Lombard’s ranch in Encino, California.

They married in 1939, but their happiness was brief. In 1942, Lombard died in a plane crash returning from a war bond tour. Gable was devastated, enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Forces soon after. He never fully recovered and was reportedly changed forever by the loss.
