#20: The Best Man Won
Here’s an interesting tidbit about the U.S. flag: did you know it was designed by 17-year-old Robert G. Heft as part of a high school project? Not only that, but his teacher didn’t even like the design that much (or maybe she didn’t like Robert that much) and only gave him a B-.

But Heft was confident in his design and decided to send it to Walter Moeller, his Ohio Congressman, who succeeded in making Heft’s design the new country flag. It was officially adopted as the new flag on the fourth of July, 1960. Heft passed away in 2009, but he will always be remembered for this contribution.
