Many cat owners are looking for ways to keep their cats happy indoors. Most cats that have lived their whole life in the home will rarely be miserable inside, but other cats have the desire to get outside.
That’s why we wanted to share some tips, just in case your cat is itching to be wild outdoors but you’ve decided that they’ll live indoors where they’ll be safer. Below are the best tips to keep your cat happy indoors.
Get Climbing Things
Cats are happiest when they have vertical objects to climb up. They don’t need as much horizontal space as they do vertical space. This means investing in cat towers or other climbable surfaces that your cats can use indoors safely and happily to climb.
Make Window Spaces
Remember that your cats do enjoy viewing the great outdoors, so create some cat-friendly window spaces. This will give your kitty some time to view animals that they may typically try to hunt. They will make the silliest noises as they sit in the window spaces, too!
Get Baskets
Cats enjoy having a safe space to lay and feel cozy during the day. Most cats nap a ridiculous amount of hours per day, so get some baskets that are lined with soft blankets. Set the baskets throughout the home in various corners where the kitty may rest peacefully and safely.
They Need Warmth
Since cats don’t have the same temperature as humans or dogs, they need ample space where they can sunbathe. They need more heat than other pets, so baskets or blankets in areas where your cat can lay in the sunshine will keep your indoor cat happiest.
Use a Leash
Another option to keep your cat happy indoors is to use a leash or an enclosed porch area for your kitty to roam without being able to run off into the wild. A leash isn’t something that every cat will take to, but you can try to train your cat to use a leash.
Keep the Litter Box Clean
Lastly, be sure to keep the litter box clean. Some people have recommended having one cat litter box per cat plus one. So if you have three indoor cats, then you’ll need to have four litter boxes throughout the house. This helps keep indoors cats happier, believe us!
These are just some of the many unique ways you can keep your cat happy indoors. Having a way to keep your indoor kitty happy will make your life, and theirs, a better life to live!
