#13: Herman Cain’s Political Slogan – The Simpsons Movie – 2007
In The Simpsons Movie, President Schwarzenegger is handed a list of crisis options and dramatically declares, “I was elected to lead, not to read!” It’s played as classic Springfield satire—mocking political bravado and wilful ignorance.

Yet in 2011, Herman Cain, during his Republican presidential campaign, used the exact phrase in multiple speeches. Cain later acknowledged it was a quote from The Simpsons Movie, but its use in a real campaign blurred the line between fiction and political theater. What began as a cartoon punchline about performative leadership became part of actual American political rhetoric.
