#29: Discombobulated on The Ellen Show
The media likes to portray Sofía Vergara as a ditsy bombshell, but we think she’s actually a witty, smart conversationalist. Ellen DeGeneres leaned into the ditsy stereotype, though, when she forced Sofía to pronounce complicated English words on-air. Sofía, whose native tongue is Spanish, became flustered and frustrated during the bit.
When Ellen reveals that she’s going to “teach” Sofía English words, you can see the actress get understandably offended. She replies coolly, “Okay. I know English very well.” Ellen then serves her the word “discombobulated” which Sofía good-naturedly struggles through. After the clips resurfaced a few years later, Sofía defended Ellen by saying she was always in on the joke and was never a victim of what some people viewed as bullying behavior.
