#27: Barely Stayin’ Alive
Cringe-worthy interview moments aren’t new. In 1997, Clive Anderson created one of the most uncomfortable moments in British talk show history when he interviewed The Bee Gees on his show All Talk. During the course of the segment, Clive made disrespectful jokes about the band’s name and their songs. After about 10 minutes of this, the Gibbs brothers had enough.
The interview starts off fine, with the three band members going along with the jokes. However, Clive kept pushing with his mean-spirited one-liners. At one point, Clive says, “You’ll always be tossers to me.” A “tosser” is British slang to describe someone as stupid. He also mentions how he doesn’t like The Bee Gees’ music, but his dog does. Okay, Clive. At that point, you can tell the energy shifts, and Barry eventually storms off, with Maurice and Robin quickly following.
