You might have heard of Steeplechase Park and even visited it a couple of times growing up. It was one of the most iconic amusement parks of Coney Island, New York, and the longest-standing park, running for 67 years, from 1897 to 1964. Throughout its years of operation, the park was a cultural and financial staple of Coney Island.

Since the park was closed in the mid-sixties, there has been much public debate about the use of the large site. Many different individuals and companies wanted to own the land. A restaurant mogul bought the land in the mid-eighties and proposed to rebuild the amusement park, but those plans fell through. Eventually, in 1994, it was decided to use the land to build a minor-league baseball stadium.
