Prom 1994 probably felt magical at the time, but this picture tells a different story years later. She’s glowing in a silver-patterned dress with a corsage on her wrist, standing in a classic prom pose on the lawn. Next to her, though, is a head-to-toe tuxedoed date who now looks like something out of a horror movie.

Her mom clearly didn’t want to see the ex-boyfriend’s face anymore, so she went after the photo with a thick black marker and completely erased him. What was once a sweet memory now looks like a surreal art project, awkward and unforgettable.
