The trend of bringing strange animals on trains was too much for this individual. He couldn’t compete and decided to take matters into his own hands. He was determined to bring along the most extraordinary animal that no one else had dared to ride with.

Yet when he settled on a lion, he realized it might be challenging and had to take a more creative approach. Ladies and gentlemen, that is how the beloved subject of this photo ended up riding the subway with a lion mask on his head, mane and all. It doesn’t explain why he, too, is in Victorian garb.
