The Largest Dogs in the World

March 2, 2021 by Sarah Carter

There are so many beautiful animals in the world, but today we wanted to feature some of the largest dogs in the world. These large dogs are not only beautiful but they look majestic as they stand towering over other dogs in the world.

Enjoy this list of the largest dogs in the world.

Zeus

Great Danes are by far the largest dog when you measure the distance between a dog’s paw and shoulder blades. This one Great Dane named Zeus measured in at 7 feet 4 inches when standing on his hind legs, and 44 inches tall. This amazing large dog spent his days as a therapy dog, one of the qualities of a Great Dane is that htey make excellent therapy dogs even though they’re humongous.

Freddy

The tallest dog out there that holds the Guinness title holder for the tallest dog is Freddy. Another Great Dane achieving new heights, quite literally. Freddy measures 40.75 inches tall and lives in England. This dog may hold a world record but that doesn’t stop him from occasionally chewing up sofas! It’s nice to hear that Freedy may be a world record holding dog, but still enjoys being an everyday dog.

Boomer

Now we’re getting somewhere, Boomer is a Newfoundland dog with nearly world record matching heights was recognized by The Associated Press. Boomer measured in at seven feet long and weighed 180 lbs. His height was only 36 inches though, and in order to be considered for the world record, he needed to be at least 40 inches tall. So, while Boomer isn’t technically a world recording holding dog, we wanted to include this beautiful dog in our list. Boomer passed away in 2012 at age 6.

Euhprates

Last on our list of the largest dogs in the world is Euphrates. This American Molossus is an ancient breed of dog that’s gigantic, but Euphrates is even larger than most of his breed. This dog is from Utah and measured at 6 feet and weighs 180lbs. But wait, there’s more … this measurement was made while Euphrates was a puppy! This dog breed is a mixture of the English and Neapolitan Mastiffs and was originally bred back in 5000 BCE to be a battle dog. While this particular pooch won’t be in any major battles, he just had to be included in our list of largest dogs around the world.

As you just read there are many large dogs all over the world just waiting to get the record holder. Whether your dog is working towards a record holding title or just enjoys being a happy domesticated large dog, we hope this list inspires you to share one of these beautiful animals with your friends. Large dogs bring a kindness into your home that no other dog breed can offer!
