Bowling balls can get up a lot of speed when you bowl them. They’re pretty dense and heavy, plus the floors that they slide across in bowling alleys are carefully designed and maintained to let the ball move as frictionlessly as possible across them. So you want to be pretty careful where you throw a bowling ball because it can do some damage where it hits.

For instance, I can think of absolutely no situation where rolling a bowling ball at a group of small children is anything but an astonishingly terrible idea. However, because I am a terrible person, I keep imagining the ball hitting them and it’s like in a cartoon where they just scatter like bowling pins. That would be pretty funny. Still, I’m glad that didn’t happen.
