Surprising Stories from the Set of Gilligan’s Island

Bob d’Arcy was Bob Denver’s stand-in, stepping in for the rougher, riskier physical stunts that came with playing Gilligan. Any time things got a little too dangerous, d’Arcy was the one tumbling, crashing, or pratfalling his way through the scene to keep Denver safe.

He also slipped into one of the show’s most memorable costumes: the robot suit in the episode Gilligan’s Living Doll. While viewers saw Gilligan face off with a clunky mechanical visitor, it was d’Arcy sweating inside the suit. His behind-the-scenes work helped bring some of the show’s wildest moments to life.
