Cheap with the Chips
As I’ve said elsewhere in this article, frugality is a good thing. And part of frugality is deciding when it’s worth it to spend a lot of money on something and when it’s better to be more cautious with your spending. It’s reasonable to spend a lot of money on something that really matters to you and that you think you’ll get a lot of use out of, while being more careful about small things.
However, there are certain things that shouldn’t count as small things. Being a good host, especially to your children’s friends, definitely falls into that category. If someone is a guest in your house, particularly if that someone has been good to your kid, just spring and let them eat a bunch of potato chips. It’s not hard. What’s it going to cost you, an extra $2?
