These mystery rooms, like the one where this woman looks like she is standing on a slant, use the methods behind optical illusions to manipulate people’s minds. In 1998, Berkley psychologists were able to decipher that these illusions confused our brains’ expectations and, therefore, aid in our ability to see things differently. Our brain helps us orient ourselves, and when we can’t see the horizon, then we can’t place our surroundings.
