#37:Language is Wild
Linguists have been studying the history of language for years and they still don’t have all the answers. Language is so complicated, it sometimes feels completely arbitrary. There are so many rules in the English language we don’t fully understand, and there’s not much we can do but go along with it.

We don’t often stop to think about some of the weird words and conventions in the English language, because that would be too overwhelming (and a waste of time). However, these thoughts sometimes pop to us at random times; for example, why are “Zoe” and “Zoey” but “Joe” and “Joey” aren’t?
