#36: No Politics Allowed
The tradition of political neutrality dates back centuries and reflects the unique role that the monarchy plays in British society. By remaining above the political fray, members of the royal family are able to represent the interests of the entire nation rather than aligning themselves with one particular party or ideology.
While this may seem like a restriction on their freedom of speech, it is an important part of the family’s responsibilities as public figures and representatives of the monarchy. In the end, the requirement for members of the royal family to remain politically neutral is just one aspect of their complex and often challenging role.
