#13: What’s in a Name?
This next entry is a confession that this person did not know for a long time where the term Black Friday comes from, but actually, the truth is that no one really knows where the term Black Friday comes from. From what I can find in research, there are many different possible origins.
One of the proposed etymologies is the one that this writer refers to: that it’s the day that puts stores in the black rather than the red: that is, they make a lot of money that day. But the meaning that this person proposed, that it’s a day where bad things happen, is equally likely as a source.
