Pepsi A.M.
In 1989, PepsiCo had the bright idea to add even more caffeine to their traditional Pepsi recipe in order to create an energizing breakfast drink. PepsiCo wanted to increase sales by promoting Pepsi as a drink that could stand in for any meal, rather than something to drink with popcorn at the movie theater.
Unfortunately, this energy drink never took off because consumers just didn’t like the idea of sipping on extremely caffeinated (and sickening sweet) Pepsi first thing in the morning. Sales were very low, and production screeched to a halt one year after Pepsi A.M. came to the market.
