Lively
In 2008, virtual role-playing worlds were rising in popularity, and “Second Life” was especially popular. Google saw an opportunity to make its way into the market and developed its own virtual world called Google Lively. In this world, users could create their own avatars and interact with others in a detailed 3D setting.
But consumers have never had much patience for lagging servers and constant glitches, which were big problems for Google Lively. The virtual world was only around for a few months before being taken down completely at the end of 2008. Although the idea was a good one, it simply wasn’t executed well enough to be a successful product.
