Singhbury’s Local
Depending on where you’re from in the world, this pun may not make sense right off the bat. No worries, we’ll break it down for you now. Singhbury’s Local is meant to sound like Sainsbury’s Local, a convenience grocery store chain made popular by well-known TV chefs. Not surprisingly, Singhbury’s Local is also a convenience grocery store.
Unfortunately, Singhbury’s Local had to be renamed because Sainsbury’s Local wasn’t too thrilled with the name similarity. Jel Singh Nagra, the store owner, renamed the store to Morrisingh’s to keep part of his name in the store. There is another similar-sounding store name called Morrison’s, but they didn’t give Mr. Singh grief for using a similar sounding name. We have to give Mr. Singh credit for everything he went through to promote a business name with a sense of humor.
