#7: From the Train Crash to the Altar
This next story is a true testament to the power of fate and chance encounters. It was a train wreck that brought them together, with the author’s great-grandfather traveling second class and his future wife in the coach car. Despite the chaos and injuries caused by the derailment, the author’s great-grandmother rose to the occasion and helped those in need, including the man who would later become her husband!
The fact that she used strips of her petticoat as bandages only adds to the romantic intrigue of the story. It almost sounds like a scene out of a movie. Even after the ordeal was over, the couple continued to share a lighthearted banter, with the great-grandfather teasing that his ear was crooked because his future wife had put the bandage on wrong.
