#26: Fern the Axolotl
If you’re in the market for an exotic pet that’s both adorable and a little weird (aren’t we all?), look no further than the axolotl. These aquatic creatures are sometimes referred to as “Mexican walking fish,” but don’t let that fool you – they’re actually a type of salamander that never fully develops into its adult form. Instead, they stay in their larval stage forever, retaining their gills and cute, chubby faces.
And while they may not be the most interactive pets out there – they’re content to hang out in their tanks all day – they’re definitely fascinating to watch. Plus, they have the unique ability to regrow lost limbs – so if you accidentally knock off one of their little legs, don’t worry, it’ll grow back eventually. Just be prepared to spend some time explaining to your friends why you have a tank full of what looks like Pokémon.
