#9: Emotion Isn’t Gendered
“Real men don’t cry.” Not even the least bit true. On the contrary. Thankfully, this person below agrees with us. “That’s some emotional manipulation right there,” they said. Toxic masculinity is pervasive in our culture. Men are told to be “manly” and that crying is “for women.” But masculinity can be whatever men want it to be, and so does femininity.
Crying is not a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength. It shows that you’re not afraid to showcase your emotions, to feel your feelings and give them a name and space. Suppressing emotion always ends poorly. Inevitably, those suppressed emotions reemerge in an unhealthy manner. So, cry it out.
