“Happiness is a choice.” Okay, well, if happiness is truly a choice, then what does that make depression? This person is also curious to know. “That’s maybe sometimes a little true, but depression is real, and it’s not what anyone chose,” they said. Nobody chooses to be depressed. It’s a chemical imbalance in the brain that’s sometimes hereditary.
Yes, happiness can be a choice. But it really depends on the circumstances. It just feels hypocritical, especially given that depression is thrust upon us without our consent. Shouldn’t happiness also be categorized as such? And you can choose happiness but still suffer from depression. It stinks on ice, but it’s a thing.
