Four parts of a whole
A skilled photographer took this photo of a view through a wooden fence. They noticed how the fence divided the landscape perfectly into four symmetrical parts – the sky above, the river below, and the forest on each side – and took the photo to commemorate this perfect symmetry.
For some unexplained reason, humans are attracted to harmony and symmetry. Seeing photos that are perfectly symmetrical is soothing and oddly satisfying, which is part of what makes this photo so pleasant to look at. The landscape is divided so perfectly, it’s almost hard to believe these are four parts of a whole.
