An apple a day keeps the doctor away

This isn’t Photoshop – although it looks like it, thanks to the vivid colors of the photo – but simply a photo of a half-eaten apple. However, most of us might not be familiar with this apple breed. Most of us are used to eating the Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, the McIntosh apple, and of course, the Granny Smith.

This type of apple is called the Pink Peal apple, and it was cultivated back in 1944 by Albert Etter, a famous northern California fruit breeder. The Pink Pearl, as its name suggests, is known for its bright pink flesh and yellow-green skin. Rumor has it the flavor of these pink apples is often sweet-tart. Here’s something you probably never knew about apples, and here’s another interesting question: how many apple breeds are there?
