Olympics Costumes That Made a Statement

2012 was the year gymnast Aliya Garayeva ended her competitive career. In 2012, the rhythmic gymnast from Azerbaijan competed for Russia’s national team, and she went out with a bang (or at least, with a memorable outfit!). While she didn’t win a medal that year (she came in fourth!), she’ll go down in the books thanks to her daring outfit.

The gymnast wore a flashy and fiery leotard with a bedazzled piece in the middle. She was all sparks and smiles as she performed on stage. It’s still considered one of the best outfits of the Olympics. While she’s no longer competing, Garayeva is still passionate about rhythmic gymnastics, and in 2014 she started her career as a gymnastics coach.
