KILLED: John Travolta, Battlefield Earth
Battlefield Earth depicted a future where humans are enslaved by an alien race, adapted from L. Ron Hubbard’s novel. John Travolta played the villainous alien Terl, performing under heavy makeup in a film packed with strange angles, overblown dialogue, and chaotic storytelling.

The film was widely ridiculed and became synonymous with big-budget failure. Coming after Travolta’s 1990s comeback, it abruptly halted his momentum. Although he continued working, Battlefield Earth effectively ended his run as a revitalized leading man in prestige or blockbuster projects.
