Older generations have been complaining about younger generations for, well, literal centuries. According to Kenneth John Freeman, the ancient Greeks complained that the youths of their day “now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.” Wait… are we in a bizarro time warp? This sounds a lot like today! There is no generational rivalry quite as fraught as the one between Baby Boomers and Millennials. Baby Boomers, born between the end of WWII and the mid-1960s, can’t seem to understand or tolerate the shenanigans of Millennials, born during the 1980s and 90s. This constant back-and-forth of insults has played out on the internet, and we’ve put together the best Millennial clapbacks served to Baby Boomers. Grab your popcorn and get ready to be entertained.
#1: Do the Math
Although there have been recent talks of making college free in the US, it’s still largely privatized and boy is it expensive. Sure, there’s financial aid but many young people graduate with thousands of dollars of debt just to get a college degree. It’s unfortunately gotten harder and harder over the past few decades to easily afford to go to college.
That’s why it’s frustrating for many Millennials to hear Baby Boomers talk about how hard they worked to put themselves through college, implying the young adults of today don’t work hard at all. Sure, they definitely did work hard back then, but this post shows how the price of college has made it nearly impossible to afford these days. Many Baby Boomers were able to work one job AND pay for tuition. Nowadays, that’s literally impossible for a majority of people.
