Change Up Your Buns
China decided to take the road less traveled when it came to McDonald’s buns. Thus, black and white burger buns were borne out of a need to change things up. Fun fact: the black bun was dyed with squid ink and served with a beef patty. The white bun was served as a chicken burger with a heaping helping of sesame seeds on top.
Additionally, both burgers were topped with mashed potatoes and bacon. Apparently, this didn’t resonate with Chinese consumers since the black and white burgers were take off the menu. Sometimes experimentation doesn’t yield fruit. For worldwide mega-chains like McDonald’s, this probably didn’t leave a dent in their massive profits.
