#29: Dominoes is a Way of Life
Dominoes is more than a game in Cuba—it’s a cherished national pastime that blends friendly competition with deep social connection. Across the island, locals gather in courtyards, gardens, and public plazas, slamming down tiles and trading laughter, strategy, and spirited banter.

The tradition has carried over into Cuban communities abroad, particularly in Miami’s Little Havana. At Maximo Gomez Domino Park on Calle Ocho, groups of Los Veteranos—elderly Cuban men often dressed in crisp guayabera shirts and puffing cigars—fill the park’s domino tables from morning to dusk.
