#12: It’s Illegal to Own a Monopoly Board
Before 1959, Monopoly enjoyed widespread popularity in Cuba, with families regularly gathering around the game board and even local printers producing a pirated version known as Capitolio, which sidestepped Parker Brothers’ copyright.

However, once Fidel Castro rose to power, the capitalist themes of Monopoly clashed with the ideals of his new regime. In a sweeping symbolic gesture, Castro banned the game entirely, ordering every set in the country to be destroyed.
