The Tree of Death
If you think the legal system is flawed today, you need to hear what it was like in the time of Claudius Drusus. Claudius sadly passed in 20 AD after choking on a pear that he had thrown into the air and caught in his mouth. Considering he lived in a very dangerous period of time, this is a rather unlucky way to die.
Interestingly enough, authorities at the time decided to treat this case as a murder and thus held a trial. The accused party—none other than the pear tree, of course. In fact, after reviewing all the evidence, the court found the tree to be guilty, but the story does not give any indication of what the punishment for that crime was.
